DAY 2 (Monday): Walking Food tour: A Culinary Journey Through the Heart of Lefkada
Stop 1: Traditional Handmade Pie Tasting
Your day begins at an authentic local bakery celebrated for its traditional home-made pies, based on treasured Lefkadian recipes.
You'll step inside the cozy workshop, meeting local artisans whose skilled hands create these delicious pies every day. They'll warmly welcome
you, demonstrating the art and secrets of pie-making passed down through generations.

Enjoy tasting exquisite varieties of seasonal pies, each crafted with fresh, local ingredients that showcase the flavours of Lefkada. As a special
treat, you'll also savour ladopita, a delightful local dessert pie made with olive oil.

Walk through Lefkada Town – History, Architecture and Culture
Following the tasting, embark on a scenic stroll along Lefkada's picturesque coastal road, heading into the vibrant local market. Your guide
will introduce fascinating stories about the town’s rich history, culture and unique architectural heritage.
Passing through the historic Megali Vrysi area, you'll get a glimpse of an old hotel from a bygone era, where wealthy Lefkadians once paid for
luxurious hot baths. You’ll marvel at the architectural charm of the Old Houses and explore a beautiful period building that captures the
elegance of the past.

Continuing your walk, you'll visit significant landmarks including the Church of Agios Spyridon and the bustling Central Square. Discover Hotel
Patrai, among the town's oldest and most iconic accommodations, and pass by important cultural attractions such as the Phonograph and
Folklore Museum, the Byzantine Church of Agios Nikolaos, and the distinguished homes of renowned Greek poets and writers, such as
Aristotelis Valaoritis or the Zampelios family.

Your journey through history and culture concludes nearby, where you’ll have the chance to discover a charming local spot that your guide
will point out, ideal for those who may wish to return later for a coffee or a bite to eat. Nearby, you’ll get the chance to discover delightful
local specialties, such as the fragrant portokalopita (orange pie), tangy lemonopita (lemon pie) and traditional ladopita.

Stop 2: Traditional Cured Meats and Local Artisans
Your gastronomic journey continues with a dive into the world of cured meats and the traditional Lefkadian salami. You'll learn about the
time-honoured techniques used in the preparation of cured meats and enjoy a tasting of delicious salami.
Just around the corner from the factory, you'll step into a little pocket of local life where tradition still thrives. One of the last remaining
tsagkaradika (shoe repair shops) stands as a quiet testament to Lefkada’s artisanal past. Nearby, a cozy store invites you in with shelves full of
traditional Greek products, perfect for discovering a taste of Greece to take home.

As the walk continues, your guide will lead you past the elegant Holy Church of Pantokrator. Behind it lie the graves of the Valaoritis family,
one of Lefkada’s most prominent historical lineages. You’ll also hear stories about the Frangoulis Distillery, a cherished but now-closed chapter
in local distillation history, and pass in front of the neighbourhood creamery, still producing dairy in the traditional way.
Before wrapping up the stop, there's a final nod to a beloved ouzo tavern tucked away like a local secret. Known for its relaxed atmosphere,
flavourful meze and strong ouzo, it's the kind of place where Lefkadians linger over good food and even better company.

Stop 3: Traditional Bakery and Bread-Making
The next stop of the day brings you to a charming local bakery that feels like a warm embrace from Lefkada’s culinary past. Here, tradition is
alive in every loaf, as the skilled bakers craft fermented bread and a variety of baked goods using time-honoured techniques passed down
through generations.
You’ll witness the bread-making process up close, from the careful kneading of the dough to its slow rise and golden finish in the oven. You’ll
also get to taste a selection of their signature bakes, warm and fresh from the oven, a true comfort for the senses.
Right next door, you’ll find a small salami shop, adding another layer of flavour to this stop. Though brief, the reference serves as a nod to the
deep-rooted presence of local food artisans in the area, each contributing to the island’s rich gastronomic identity.

Stop 4: A Story of Local Wine Heritage
Your day continues with a visit to a local wine shop nestled in the heart of Lefkada’s wine tradition. While this stop does not include a tasting, it
offers a fascinating introduction to the island’s unique wine varieties and the rich history behind them.
Just nearby, your guide will also point out Agios Minas Church, one of the oldest and most beloved churches in Lefkada. With its beautiful
iconostasis and historical architecture, the church stands as a symbol of the island’s spiritual and cultural continuity through the centuries.

Stop 5: Mandolato and Pasteli Workshop Visit
Your next stop brings you to a beloved local workshop dedicated to the art of traditional Greek sweets. Known especially for their mandolato,
a soft nougat made with honey and almonds, and pasteli, a sesame and honey bar with ancient roots, it is a quiet tribute to time-honoured
craftsmanship.
During your visit, you’ll learn about the history and process behind these iconic confections. Watch as the ingredients come together in a
careful rhythm – honey bubbling, sesame roasting, almonds being folded into the mix.

Stop 6: Traditional Pastry Shop and Sweet Tasting
Your flavour-filled adventure continues at one of Lefkada’s most cherished pastry shops, where tradition and indulgence meet in every bite.
Step inside and discover a wonderland of handmade Greek sweets, each crafted with care, heritage, and a whole lot of love. From syrup-
soaked delights like baklava and kadaifi, to delicate almond-based treats and buttery kourabiedes, this stop offers a delicious dive into the
world of traditional Greek desserts.
You’ll enjoy a curated tasting of some of the shop’s most iconic confections, each with its own story, rooted in family recipes and passed
down through generations.

Stop 7: A Glimpse into a Traditional Greek Grocery Store
Your next stop is at a traditional grocery store that offers a rare and heartfelt glimpse into the Lefkada of yesteryear. Stepping inside feels like
opening a time capsule, where the worn wooden shelves, vintage weighing scales and faint aroma of dried herbs speak volumes about
everyday life in decades past.
Here, you’ll hear stories about how grocery stores once formed the backbone of the community. These humble yet essential shops sold
everything from staples like pasta, legumes, and flour to handmade soaps, olive oil, spices, and mountain herbs. More than just shops, they
were gathering places, small hubs of exchange, conversation, and neighbourhood warmth.

The area around Agios Minas is still alive with that same welcoming energy. You’ll pass by a popular spot for locals, as well as a cluster of
traditional little cafés where locals gather for their daily coffee, chats, and card games.
And just a few steps away, don’t miss a mention of Ariston Bakery, a local favourite known for its fresh bread and savoury snacks, continuing
the island’s deep love affair with handmade, soul-nourishing food.

Stop 8: Cheese Tasting Experience
Your flavourful exploration continues at a stylish blend of salumeria, fromaggeria and spritzeria tucked into the heart of Lefkada Town. This is
where Mediterranean charm meets contemporary taste.
Inside, you'll be welcomed by a curated selection of local and imported cheeses, each offering its own texture, aroma and story.
Alongside the cheeses, you’ll sample a glass of wine that complements the flavours perfectly, elevating the entire tasting into a multi-sensory
experience. The wine may come from Lefkada’s own vineyards or from handpicked Greek labels, each sip adding to the rich narrative of
Greece’s wine culture.

Stop 9: Light Bites, Local Vibes
To round off the day, you’ll unwind at one of Lefkada’s beloved local spots for a light yet satisfying meal.
This place is cherished by locals for their welcoming atmosphere, flavourful dishes and authentic meze culture, making it a great opportunity
to blend tradition with heart.

Expect a spread of small plates – local cheeses, seasonal salads, warm pies, olives, and house specialties – served alongside a glass of wine,
tsipouro or ouzo. It’s the kind of meal that invites conversation, laughter and a slow, joyful pace.
As the sun dips and the day winds down, this stop offers a perfect moment to reflect on everything you’ve tasted, discovered, and shared.
